Nalu, the Firefly Faerie.

We are so excited to show you our new art picture. We made it to introduce you to quite an extraordinary wee faerie that we recently met. Her name is Nalu. She spends most days collecting wee bits of strings, tiny treads and even small snippets of yarn and ribbons, which is not a strange thing for faeriefolk to do, most of us love collecting strings and things…but it’s what she does with these that’s quite amazing.

You see...She’ll keep gathering these until she has just enough (we asked her exactly how much enough is, to which she just smiled and said “enough is not a number, enough is knowing”) and then carefully tie each one into a wee little bow. They look similar to shoelaces, but we tried to make one and it’s a lot more complicated to do than a lace of a shoe.

Making these can take her anything from a few hours to a few weeks depending on how many bits of string she has…but she always has just enough which means it will take her exactly the right amount of time to do. When the very last one is tied, a full moon should be just about halfway through its climb up into the evening sky, under which she’ll sit and wait. She will whistle for the wind and wait some more…her hands like a wee cocoon around the bowties. And then, as the breeze arrives she slowly opens her hands like a flower in bloom, letting them drift off with the wind into the night skies…and one by one, with a wee bit of magic and a whole lot of moonlight they turn into fireflies…

Once there was a wee little gnome named Galagasco.
Now, if you had to choose just one word to describe him you would probably use the word ‘lazy’. And if you did you’d be right. The thing about lazy folk is that they usually end up with lots and lots of things to do that never gets done. This was also true in the case of Galagasco. One day it got so bad that he decided it was time to do something about it. Many lazy folk make this decision, but he went a step further than most of them…He actually did something.
He made a list.
At first he titled it ‘Things To Do Today’, but since it was already afternoon he decided to change it to ‘Things To Do Tomorrow’. And credit given where credit is due, he did write down quite a lot of things to do. It took some time, but it was a good list and he was rather proud of it. When he was done he read through it once more and thought that with so many things to do tomorrow, he should probably spend the rest of today resting.

He folded up the list and placed it on the wee table next to his bed where he snuggled up and found his way to dreamland in no time. He slept like a log and woke up well rested the next morning.
“What a lovely day” he thought as he got out of bed, until he remembered about the list and all those things that needed to be done. His heart sank into his little boots. He sighed as he picked up the list, but as he began to read, a smile appeared on his face. He re-read it few more times, just to be sure and gave another big sigh, only this time it was a sigh of relief.
“I was a little worried for a while” he said to himself, “but there was no need, for this is a list of things to do tomorrow…not today”.
He folded up the list and put it back onto the wee table next to his bed.
“And since I have so many things to do tomorrow” he thought aloud, “I should probably spend the rest of today resting”. and got back into bed.

Halloween with the Picsees: DRACULA!

Happy Halloween everyone! Wow…we can’t believe today is finally here…it’s Halloween and it’s Friday! Tricky Treats and the weekend all in one! yHay!

If you saw our other post earlier this week you will know all about our plans to dress up as scary old movie poster for this year’s Halloween! We found some very scary posters but we think this one might be the scariest one of them all…it’s of a movie called Dracula! We’ve not actually seen any of the movies cause we are wee ones and wee ones aren’t allowed to watch scary movies…but lucky for us my brother’s one friend’s friend said he once saw this movie so we knew exactly what it was about.
It’s all about someone called Dracula and he was never allowed to play outside in the sunshine with all the other boys and girls. Its cause he got sunburnt very quickly…it didn’t even help if he used a whole bottle of suntan lotion.
This meant he had to stay indoors every day. Unfortunately there were no toys or storybooks in their house so he learned about maths and numbers…he got so good with numbers they called him Mister Count! Of course everyone thought he would become a mathematician when he grew up but he had different ideas…his dream was to become a mosquito…and that is more or less what the movie is about ~:D

We needed a bit of help to make this costume. The wee village gnomes helped us to make a very snazzy suite cause like most good monsters mister count is a very snappy dresser. My brother’s friend Brambles the hobgoblin got to dress up as Mister Count cause he is already a bit scary looking (don’t tell him we said so)
Of course we also needed a mosquito so we went to see out friend Toggles the troll. He’s got a wee mosquito farm by the big puddle under the bridge. He liked our idea and said his best mosquito called Bella should be perfect for the job…and she was…until disaster struck! While we were making the poster Bella bit mister Brambles! We know that if a zombie bites you will also become a zombie so that means mister Brambles the hobgoblin will probably be turning into a mosquito just like the real mister Count!

We hope you like the picture we made…and we’ll let you know if mister Brambles become a mosquito but until then you must all have a happy Halloween and a most wonderful weekend

Oh…it you didn’t see our previous post you should go have a wee look just below this post on our page…it’s about mister Frankenstein!

A traditional Picsee sleeping-song.

in the mid-o-the night
the faeries take flight
on wings that they wove from the day.
and they’ll fly and they’ll leap
while you fall asleep
along brooks and over the brae.

for within this world
they have been foretold
is a magic so pure it’s agleam.
their legend is true
and it involves you
and the places you go when you dream.

This mug might just be the most useful mug ever made cause it will remind everyone that it’s best not to bother you while you are enjoying your lovely tea or coffee break…and if they do you will at least get a cookie or two ~:D

Lindee-Mae the moon-time faerie.

Lindee-Mae the moon-time faerie.

Hello everyone…we would like you to meet our wee friend Lindee-Mae. She is one of the moon-time faeries that live in the wee woodlands near our house. The moon-time faeries do all the little jobs to get the forest and the woods and all the wee gardens ready for night time. For instance, Lindee-mae’s job is to collect all the wee bits of left-over sunlight at dusk before it gets dark. She then keeps it safe until dawn so that it can be used as wee shimmers and glimmers on the dew drops the next morning ~:D

A Runnerbean and a Snifflehog…

A Runnerbean and a Snifflehog…

We made this picture to show you some of the new freinds we met…this is a Runnerbean and his pet snifflehog.
Runnerbeans are wee wild forest picsees and as you could probably guess they got their names cause they look a bit like a butterbean and they can run very very fast and very very far. Cause of all this running about they know every single inch of the forests in which they live and with the help of a snifflehog they can find absolutely anything…whether it already exists or not.
So…next time you are in the forest and you are looking for some nice berries or a long lost legendary treasure…or maybe you are just looking for a wee bit of inspiration, you should just find a runnerbean and they will help you to find what you need. Basically…they are like google for the forest ~:D

a wee list of 13 things to help you get through this Halloween…

– – – ——————- I ——————- – – –

We don’t know much about werewolves but we do know a wee fox-terrier puppy who barks at the moon cause he thinks it’s a saucer of milk, and if you give him milk for real he’s happy and goes to bed…we think this should work for werewolves too.

– – – ——————- II ——————- – – –

Your average monster under the bed is completely harmless but we still recommend wearing socks when you sleep cause sometimes they will mistake your toes for peanuts and try to eat them.

– – – ——————- III ——————- – – –

Most ghost are invisible so it’s a good idea to leave out an old jacket or a snazzy hat for them to wear so that you don’t accidently sit on them when they are watching the telly.

– – – ——————- IV ——————- – – –

Whisky is not a ghost although it says spirit* on the bottle but if you drink too much you will become a zombie for a wee while.
*Whisky is called a distilled spirit, a ghost is called a distressed spirit

– – – ——————- V ——————- – – –

We think everyone spends most of their time thinking about exactly the same things as we do and that would mean everyone’s head is filled with thoughts of cupcakes and cookies…which would explain why zombies always want to eat their brains!

– – – ——————- VI ——————- – – –

It’s very lucky to meet a ghost when you are on holiday in a new city cause they can go show you buildings and places that don’t exist anymore.

– – – ——————- VII ——————- – – –

When a bug becomes lazy they are lazybugs…but when a bee becomes lazy they turn into zombees!

– – – ——————- VIII ——————- – – –

Not all nightmares are about monsters chasing you…like one time we had a dream that we spent all day tiding our room and then when we woke up it was still a big mess!

– – – ——————- IX ——————- – – –

There is no reason to be afraid of toilet rolls, they are not neatly dressed mummies.

– – – ——————- X ——————- – – –

All vampires are scared of the sun, this is because they are made of butter and afraid they will melt. (it’s also why they don’t like garlic or bread rolls)

– – – ——————- XI ——————- – – –

A Jack-O-lantern or pumpkin ghost is not the only scary vegetable, you also get phantomatoes, corpsgettes, and of course the most scariest of all…Brussels sprouts.

– – – ——————- XII ——————- – – –

Sometimes when something scary is peaking at you from the corner you will get goosebumps but it’s very important not to run away when this happens cause my brother says if you do, the goosebumps will turn into chicken pox and that’s much worse!

– – – ——————- 13 ——————- – – –

If you ever read a list on Halloween, and if it’s a list of thirteen things, there is one very very very important thing to remember…

Oopsy-daisies…we accidentally listed our tip about not doing what tip number 13 tells you at number 13! This means if you listen to our wonderful advice and you don’t do what it says…you are actually doing exactly what it says…which you should never do! This is what’s called a paranormal paradox.

We hope you enjoyed all our wee little Halloween list and apologise for putting you all inside a paradox…our best advice is to share this wee post with all your lovely friends cause they might have a solution to this tricky treat…

The Monsters of Loch Ness.

A wee while ago we went to visit Mika’s big sister for our holiday. She is called Nhala and she is a famous Picsee warrior of the Highlands (Mika is also a warrior but you spell his type of warrior with an ‘o’ instead of an ‘a’). Nhala is very brave…she lives under a root of a big tree in the forest and she doesn’t even have a bedside lamp for when it gets dark at night and that is quite brave cause it get very very dark at night in that forest! But our story is not about the fact that the forest gets very dark at night, it’s about the fact that the forest is right next to Loch Ness!

When you go to Loch Ness for your holiday the first thing you will probably see is people doing monster investigations. There are lots and lots of them. They are all looking for the world famous lady Nessabeth – grand monster of the Loch of Ness…or as most people call her, Nessie – the Loch Ness monster. The big problem is no one ever finds her and all the people who is not looking for her has theories about why no one ever finds her, and as you can imagine there is lots and lots of these theories but actually there is only two true reasons why no one is finding her and we know both those reasons cause Nhala told us and she is very good friends with Nessie.

Reason number one is they don’t know how to do the secret whistle to call her and reason number two is cause she is not actually in Loch Ness at moment. She is in Loch Oich, it’s the loch right next to Loch Ness only it’s much smaller and not as deep. This sounds like a strange thing to do if you are a big monster but once again there was a very good reason for this but Nhala said we have to wait until we get to the loch before we can get the answers to this mystery cause the answer is a surprise.

Nhala showed us a secret short cut through the forest and we got to loch Oich in almost no time and as you can imagine we thought we saw Nessie monsters all along the way but each time it was just rocks and big sticks and once when we were almost at the water we thought we saw her on the far end of the loch but it turned out to be a little ducky that was much closer than we thought.

When we were all at the water’s edge NhHala told us to hold hands and close our eyes. She did the whistle call. It wasn’t very loud, it almost sounded like the wind. If you were walking past you probably wouldn’t even hear it but when you do, you know it’s a magic whistle. You know that when you open your eyes she will be there.
And she was, she slowly rose from the water and looked at us all and smiled. First with her eyes and then with her mouth and then she disappeared again. Nhala looked at us and winked. We didn’t move cause we were afraid we might scare the moment away…and then she rose again but this time it was not just her…and then we all understood why she moved to the smaller shallow loch…it’s cause it’s the perfect size for a wee baby Monster! And there he was…a little baby Loch Ness monster! His name is Eoganan – Great Monster of Loch Oich and soon Loch Ness but that quite tricky to pronounce, specially while you’re playing so we just called him Noodle. He moved to this loch with his Mamma Monster just after he was born almost a hundred years ago. That sounds like alot…it’s more than we can count on all our fingers and all out toes together but in monster years it’s not that much. In monster years he’s about 7 and a half years old. Nessie said when he’s 8 monster years old they will both go back to Loch Ness where she will introduce him to everyone but we were quite glad they were still in Loch Oich cause there is lots of shallow bits where we could all play together. We had so much fun…we played games until the sun went down. It was mostly swimming games and he usually won cause he’s a very good swimmer. He didn’t even have to cheat once unlike Eric.
Later that day when we were too tired to play we told stories about where we live, about our big adventures and of course about all of you, our wonderful friends. She said we should make a picture of her and Noodle so we can show you when we get home and tell you stories about them just like we told them stories about you, and here they are…the most loveliest monsters of Loch Ness.
